Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ!

Here is a look at what's happening at Triumphant Cross Lutheran Church this week.

A Word for This Week

Do you not know, brothers and sisters — for I am speaking to those who know the law — that the law has authority over someone only as long as that person lives? For example, by law a married woman is bound to her husband as long as he is alive, but if her husband dies, she is released from the law that binds her to him. So then, if she has sexual relations with another man while her husband is still alive, she is called an adulteress. But if her husband dies, she is released from that law and is not an adulteress if she marries another man. So, my brothers and sisters, you also died to the law through the body of Christ, that you might belong to another, to him who was raised from the dead, in order that we might bear fruit for God. For when we were in the realm of the flesh, the sinful passions aroused by the law were at work in us, so that we bore fruit for death...

— Romans 7:1-6 (NIV)

Gracious God, Paul reminds us this week that we have died to the law through the body of Christ and now belong to the One who was raised from the dead.

Free us from the anxious striving that says we must earn our place with you, and lead us instead to bear fruit in lives of faith, love, and service.

As we gather in worship this Sunday, remind us that we belong to Christ — and that belonging is enough. Amen.

New This Week

What Is Your Cup of Cold Water? — Cindy Manning's sermon from last Sunday (June 28) is now on the website. Preaching from Matthew 10:40-42, Cindy drew on her first week with her TEEM seminary cohort to show what everyday discipleship looks like — a ride across a parking lot, a meal shared across a language barrier, a phone call to the grieving. Worth reading and sharing.

Prayers for Our Church

We lift the following to God in prayer:

Thursday, July 2

  • Prayers for the Church, 6:00 PM — Send your Holy Spirit to guide and bless all who gather; may our prayers rise before you as incense, covering our congregation, our community, and our world.

Sunday, July 5

  • Sunday School — Lord, as our Sunday School takes a summer rest through July, we give thanks for all who teach and learn together. Refresh and renew our teachers and students during this break, and prepare our hearts to resume our studies when we gather again on August 5.
  • Worship, 10:00 AM — Gather us as your people, Lord; may all who enter your sanctuary this Sunday be drawn closer to Christ in Word and prayer.
  • Fellowship, 11:00 AM — Thank and bless those who prepare and serve; may our time together around the table deepen our bonds as a community of faith.
